It’s a short headline but an impactful headline, of course there will be some of you reading this and just think who? Well not everyone who visits our website has yet to set foot inside our salon in Ruislip. There will be other regular customers who might need a sit down because you’ll be thinking WHAT! HELEN 60! NO WHAT….WAIT…..WHAT!!! So there are a couple of things here, granted Helen does not look 60 in age and also what does your average 60 year old look like?
When I said to Helen you’re a sexagenarian, she winked, pouted and said thank you darling I try! I didn’t explain….
Age really is just a number and how you want to look, dress and act is all a state of mind and well our Hels is the epitome of refusing to be anything but herself. However there have been many incarnations of Helen our co-owner over the years. So just for a giggle, here is Helen’s Style evolution
1960’s – Demure at Four
Helen has clearly always cared about her appearance and in this picture from the early 60’s we can already see a love of accessories and in particular belts, our Helen loves a belt! The hair there is still natural as you’d expect at the age of four. Probably the last time we will be able to describe the style as demure but a natural poser from the word go. The famous pout has yet to be practiced but the arm crook and handbag are on point.
1970s – Mamma Mia here we go.
The hair has grown and the red colour is appearing and a 1970s perm. The belts have started to get bigger and we have gone for the centre parting and hair combs. Helen channeling Abba here, very Anni-Frid here more than Agnetha. The pout is beginning emerge.
Early 1980s – Biggest Hair, biggest belts, Big…More is more
It’s the 80’s and if your hair was not massive and massively permed you weren’t doing it right! Helen is clearly doing the 80’s very well. Top marks for height, width and generally massive hair.
Late 80's, Early 90's – I should be so lucky
We are going for mid blond now and a longer spiral perm, less early madonna and more Kylie Minogue the neighbours years. Still keeping the big belt!
2000s – Two tone and Straightened
So now we are in the naughties. The naughties are made for Helen. Girl Power happens and straight hair is now in fashion and it's time to ditch the curls for a while. Layers and two tone. dark underneath and blond on top. Helen's hitting fifty hard and got to that stage of life where is all adventures from now on and the younger members of WWW.Comb better keep up!
2018 Sassy Sexagenarian
So this brings us to now and this months style is mostly beachy waves. If you do want to steal Helen's style. You will need a coral lippy, lots of black eye liner, boho chic, a big belt, a good amount of floaty fabric and leopard print. Howevever this months main accessory will be a glass of something fizzy.
