Meet the Experts
Please meet Jessica and Amelia our Hair extensions experts here at www.comb in Ruislip. Jessica is one of our salon Directors and has been fitting hair extensions since 2005. However importantly wearing them herself. Jessica has retained a loyal base of customers who are consistent wearers of extensions and applied them for hundreds of women, who enjoy having longer or fuller hair. This means that she has seen and heard every type of scenario and coached scores of women through wearing extensions and maintaining them to get the most amount of wear time.
Amelia has been fitting extensions for two years and has an impressive portfolio. Amelia is certified and fully trained to fit extensions. However Amelia has also been mentored by Jessica and therefore her standard of work is identical. Customers continue to be impressed with her eye for detail in colour matching and creating custom effects by blending several colours of hair. Amelia also likes the feeling of long glamourous hair and the versality of styles that comes with it, she is currently wearing our Russian deluxe range of extensions.
Hair Quality
The hair quality is paramount with extensions. We do not even contemplate using anything except double drawn extensions that have been produced to exacting standards. Double drawn means that the hair has been processed by hand to be the same thickness all the way down the length of the hair. We only buy from companies that are consistent in their production, colour and supply. This ensures your extensions look great on day one and stay that way months down the line. We have hair of Russian Deluxe and Great Lengths Hair extensions. Jessica and Amelia will be able to advise which is the best option for your needs.
Type of bond
There are various ways of fitting extensions but at www.comb we use the keratin bonds. We have used microbeads and various other ways but we personally found that for longevity, security ( the hair staying put) and ease of maintenance for our clients keratin bonds are the best. They are also the most discreet and the keratin is a clear tiny bond against the natural hair.
Good verses bad application
We cringe when we see bad extensions application on photos that crop up on various professional hairdressing forums or bonds that are very noticeable (sometimes ridiculously big!). We place the right amount of hair in the right place on the head to create a seamless bond and a small bond. The application is judged against the amount of hair to not stress the clients own hair and be comfortable with correct weight distribution, so that the client can’t feel the extra hair. The bonds are placed in the right position up the hair shaft, not close to touching the scalp or conversely not too far down. Finally we place the rows to be as discrete as we can and if possible undetectable even when the hair is in a pony tail.
Colour Matching is Key
We have had clients that have arrived to us after disappointing experiences with colour matching. The goal is to have natural looking hair that is blended with your current colour in shade but also tone. We are meticulous in this. For example if you have blond hair we will pick a warm or cool blond to match. If you plan to have you hair coloured and extensions likewise.
Aftercare and Communication
Long, glamourous hair is to be enjoyed and as mentioned our extensionists want you to get the best out of your new hair. Keep the condition, keep the hair attached and therefore the longest wear time. Kept well on average clients have their hair for six months and many for a year. How to wear your hair at night, how to avoid tangles, how to look after your hair on holiday. Jessica and Amelia make certain you are fully equipped to love your extensions.
Hair Stylists and Not Just Extensionists
Both Jessica and Amelia are also hair stylists and trained in cutting and colouring. This means that they trim the extensions and blend your own hair so that you leave with a long hair style and a finished look.
Ethics and CSR
We only buy from companies that are transparent about the origin of the hair they supply, the conditions of the production and the CSR agreements they have in place usually with the women that are supplying the hair or organisations in the country that look after donators, the production and the communities. There is also an option to donate your hair once you have finished to the Little Princess Trust to be made in wigs for children who need them.
