Brazilian Blow-Dry
I thought it was about time I did a bit of a write up about Brazilian blow dry. The treatment has been around for a while but some clients are still confused about what it is, the process of having it done and the result you get. I hope to demystify and help you decide whether it is the right treatment for you. For those clients with frizzy and hard to control hair it has been life changing, making hair smoother, more manageable and cutting down their styling time. If you spend ages straightening and drying your hair only to go out in humidity or rain and have you handy work completely ruined. It might be just what you’re looking for.
What is a Brazilian Blow-Dry?
Brazilian Blow-dry is a treatment that uses Keratin to pack and coat the hair, to make the hair cuticle smoother, silky and gloss. Keratin is a protein naturally found in your hair and nails. By adding more keratin the hair looks shiny and repaired.
What happens in the Salon? how long does it take?
A Brazilian blow dry takes between 1.5 hours to 3 depending on the volume and length of your hair. It isn’t quick so you’ll need to allow a good amount of time.
First the hair is washed with gentle sulphate free shampoo. Then dried,The Keratin formula (Kerastraight) is applied to sections of the hair and the hair must be fully saturated. The hair is then dried and the product is carefully and thoroughly heat sealed using straighteners into the hair cuticle. At this point we can either rinse the residue off or in our experience it is better to have a second follow up blow dry appointment to see how the product has settled into the hair. We then style the hair.
Will I get poker straight hair?
A popular myth is that a Brazilian blow dry will give you poker straight hair. It won’t. It will make your hair more manageable, straighter and control frizz. So as a rule if you have unruly curly hair it will give you either wavy or a looser tamed curl. If you have wavy hair it will give you fairly straight hair. It is also a viable alternative to relaxing afro or mixed race hair. On first application it lasts for 3 months depending on how often you wash your hair. It very gradually washes out of the hair. Results improve every time the process is repeated.
It’s good for your hair
For a few reasons it is good for your hair. The keratin moisturises, nourishes and protects the hair. And the less heat straightening required the better it is for its overall condition.
Will it affect my colour?
If you have colour it will not affect it. However it is best to have your colour done in advance of this treatment. The very nature of bleaching hair produces some damage and a Brazilian blow dry will help to repair this and give the hair shine. We’ve had some great results on people that have had heavily processed hair.
How much will it cost?
It costs from £140 for short hair and £160 for long. For our complete and up-to-date price list click here.
