Promtastic, A look back at Proms from 2014, 2015 and this year! Time flies!
We had a busy couple of months with different summer events and the feeling of general optimism that summer brings means that we’ve had a lot of you in for hair up, bridal and just wanting to change your look for summer. Either fancying a whole makeover now that school is out and there are no rules! Or simply wishing to lighten up and get that sunkissed look.
However I digress as this is post about the fabulous girls who chose us for their prom hair and makeup and there were lots of you. Errrm to the point where we had to devise a new booking system for prom clients and regular ones! Awesome!
Firstly
Well done to Katherine (first prize), Emily and Aimee (Joint second prize) winners of our prom raffle in 2014! Katherine won her hair and make-up done and Emily and Aimee their hair done. They were all pleased and an absolute pleasure to have in the salon.
Secondly
Well done to all of the stylists on my team as they coped brilliantly with the marathon of occasion hair. Each stylist kept the quality of work up the whole way through and understood the importance of creating exactly what their clients wanted for what I hope for all was a perfect Prom night.
A lot of schools chose the same days to hold their Proms with Ruislip High and Queensmead falling on the 27th June. That was a very busy but fun Friday! As the girls from Haydon year 11 rather cleverly came on mass for a group booking. Which was fabulous! Imagine a big makeover party with all your friends.
Maturity and Style
One thing that struck me over those days where we had our prom clients in was the maturity and self-assurance of what they wanted and their own personal style. As a teenager I don’t remember being that certain or aware of how to look my best. It wasn’t a case of twenty girls all wanting the same style. Each one had specific ideas. Some wishing to have buns to the side or back and others braids and half up and down. Some wished to have waves and other curls. Another observation less faux tan. As style icons have become less reality based and back to Hollywood glamour, which pleased me. Take Emma stone, gorgeous red hair and pale skin and probably one of the best dressed Hollywood A listers. Make up wise again some wanted natural and others full on glamour. There was a universal love of false eyelashes.
However thinking back to my end of school dance, probably one of the first to be called a prom, somewhere lurking in the loft one photo of me. Popularity issues aside 😉 We live in an age where everyone has a camera on them the whole time. Photo’s appear as a matter of course on twitter, facebook and Instagram for the world to see let alone your mates and mum! Our teenagers are becoming media trained! What was the reserve of a celebrity on a night out is now the norm. We are all being papped.
Before the prom there were months of selfies, pictures of dresses, shoes, makeup, hairstyles all saved to smart phones. All researched like a top stylist. Some of them could get a job working for Brad and Angelina!
These pictures were bought in months in advanced as the teenagers auditioned us to see if we were up to the job! “ I want it exactly like that! Can you do that?” said one young lady . Have you done it before?….”Yes we did one like that last year?” … Here is a picture on my phone to prove it! That seemed to suffice. I passed!
Again our team rose to the challenge.
Now most of the girls that came to see us wore summer casual gear in the salon with the plan to get dressed at home. So it was quite funny as they were all dolled up to the nines in denim shorts and cropped tshirts. The beauty of living in a media tech age is that we could see how their dress and hair went together later on, on Facebook. Some of our customers were nice enough to tag us on instagram which was great!
Make-up
Aimee Ng is the natural make-up junkie on our team and armed with Ipad and print outs of make up looks proceeded to recreate the perfect smoky eyes. Beautifully symmetrical black cat eye liner flicks and lipstick that won’t budge the whole night. After all; a revelation to me and turns out even the younger members of our crew, …you’ve got an after party…some people had an after-after party….hell some of these girlies had planned a breakfast meet up the next day….blew my mind! And as mentioned all of this is photographed and so you better be prepared for outfit changes!
So fast forward to Spring 2015 and 2016
And it would seem our rep had now proceeded us. Spring 2015 was a repeat of 2014 and 2016 we have turned this prom malarkey into a totally professional experience. Proms were a little more spaced out timing wise…phew. A little less of a marathon and we knew what to expect. This year we added tanning and nails packages on to the menu. Make up has once again been very popular. And the new phenomenon for contouring and strobing is something that has been requested and we are glad to say that Aimee has left no cheek un-highlighted or unsculpted.
To all of the girls, neh young women who came to see us before their prom. This year, last year and the year before. Thank you for choosing us. We really appreciate it.
