Can you? Rainbow hair or “brights” is a trend that has trickled up from the street and down from the catwalk. Soon enough the shops will be awash with bright coloured fashion ready for the summer months. And I myself cannot wait. I have already got my eye on some cobalt blue sandals. I am not suggesting for one moment that you will rush to match your hair with your handbag. And when Chezza Cole urges you to “be a shade braver” I doubt this is what she means. However looking at the beautiful images in this article it’s tempting to try something a bit edgy or different….isn’t it
Coloured hair has come to my attention in various guises and I am not saying it will be everyone’s cuppa but if you like your trends and enjoy experimenting with the latest look, there will be a way to wear it that will suit your lifestyle. This is not about punk but more a quiet rebellion, beautiful hair but just a little more unusual.
The inspiration for the two department stores had surely come from the catwalk. The London duo who have come from left if field, flying the flag for London cool and according to Elle magazine polarised opinion with Fashion journalists. Meadham Kirchhoff created a catwalk show of layered grungy looks but in rainbow colours. Hair that looked almost spray painted but by all accounts was a pain staking effort and achieved with oodles of hand dyed extensions.
The most wearable place this trend manifested itself was on the high street with teen queen favourite good ole Topshop. And I believe this is probably how most will wish to wear it, effortlessly and a bit grown out, somewhat carefree. Teenage girls everywhere dying a few sections in their six week summer break and then back again just in time for the term to start!
So whether you choose to go all out or dip dye the ends of a classic bob with bright pink or in fact simply pop in a couple of streaks ala Miss Avril Lavigne. Obviously with the schizophrenic nature of fashion I will forgive you if you wish to cheat and clip in some coloured extensions. I guess really the question should be will you wear a rainbow?
