The pixie cut is back (did it ever leave?!) However most recently has been brought to our attention by Pamela Anderson, Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway to name but a handful of celebrities.
Actress of the moment Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence shows us that short hair doesn’t need to be boring and in fact can be styled different ways to keep things interesting. When she took the leap to go short it was award season. And her new do was impeccably styled and restyled for a host of red carpet events. Apparently went for the chop after her hair took a battering from frequent colour changes for her movie roles.
Pammy decided it was just time that she was taken a little more seriously and the best ways to cut ties with old Pam was to go for the chop and introduce us to a sophisticated new “her” and total image overhaul.
Check out Jennifer Lawrence below and a couple of our short haircuts by Lisa and Shannon in the second half of this blog post.

Some things you should know about short hair
Funk it up for day and smooth it down for night (or the other way around!)
With a little bit of styling knowledge, short hair can be versatile. With a bit more length on top you can change the parting, sweep it back, go quiffy, bring to one side. Pin the fringe to give a vintage wave to the front… seriously you have options! Check out poster girl for the pixie J-Law.
Rooty’s not wrongy
Root growth isn’t such a big deal. Most peoples hair grows half an inch per month. If the length of your hair is a couple of inches long the percentage of root growth verses hair length can look kind of okay! In fact if you’re white blond but naturally dark a bit of rootiness can kind of add to the texture.
Colour Chameleon
You can experiment more with colour. Short hair needs to be cut more often and so effectively you can get away with a bit of damage….shhhh. So you can bleach it up, go dark, have flashes of colour and highlights. A new colour every month…go nuts!
Shoulder grazers
Balance….Because you are going a bit more minimal hair wise you can afford to go for a stronger or brighter funkier make up look. Also long feminine earrings can look awesome with short hair.
Just a Quicky
Low maintenance. Its quick to shampoo, dry and style. However you will need to come in to have it cut more regularly. However it depends on your hair texture, style really and tolerance. I had my hair short, It is also thick and I was happy playing with styling it and knew how to eek out a couple more weeks before I got it cut! This isn’t a massive secret revealed…it’s a learning curve!

Buy this stuff
Get some products. Invest in some matt waxes, hairspray to style your new look. To really make the most of short hair products are key. A smaller barrel brush will help no end….smooth it out, get root lift. pump up the volume, flick that fringe. A barrel brush is your friend!

Pick the right style for you
Pick a short cut to suit you…I’m stating the obvious I know but everyone can look good with short hair. It’s just a case of choosing the right cut. Fuller fringe, choppy, gamine, softer around the face. Longer length on top. Add some colour into the mix and you’ll get a look you’ll love.
